Dental implants are small titanium posts that replace tooth roots when natural teeth are missing. They mimic the structure and appearance of natural tooth roots and are anchored in the gums just like a natural root would be. Once the implants are placed, they fuse with the bone in an osseointegration process in the same way a natural tooth would. This fusion creates a stable foundation for replacement teeth that will not move or slip in the mouth.

At Allouez Family Dental, we recommend dental implants as an excellent option for patients who are missing one or more teeth, as they look and feel just like natural teeth and can function very much like them. With implants, patients can bite, smile, and speak naturally.

    The Dental Implant Procedure

For your implant surgery, the procedure will start with our dentist numbing the areas where the implants will be. The anesthesia will numb you but it will not put you to sleep during the procedure. Our dentist will also make sure that you are comfortable before they begin.

Once you are ready, our dentist will insert the small titanium posts that will serve as the foundation for your dental crown or bridge into the jawbone. When this process is complete, the dentist will place the temporary artificial teeth you will use for a few months until the implants fuse with your jawbone.

After the healing process, you will return to the dental office to have your permanent crown placed on top of the implant post. Once your new tooth is placed, you can care for it as you did your natural teeth. Brushing and flossing regularly to prevent an infection from occurring around your new tooth is essential.

    The Benefits of Dental Implants

    Improved Appearance

Having a gap in your smile can make it difficult to chew and speak properly. Dental implants can help restore function to your teeth and help you eat and talk as you did before.

    Better Comfort

Since dental implants are permanently secured in your jaw, they eliminate the discomfort associated with dentures slipping out of place. Dental implants also help preserve bone structure and prevent facial collapse.

    Easier Care

Caring for your dental implants is a simple process. Brush twice a day and floss daily to keep your smile as healthy as possible. Proper oral hygiene is the best way to ensure your new implants last a lifetime.
